Anne Besse-Shepherd was raised outside of Boston and on Martha’s Vineyard. She has undergraduate degree in Studio Art from Skidmore College and a Masters of Fine Arts in Metalsmithing and Jewelry Design from the University of Washington. Anne retired from her jewelry company after 30 years and switched her focus to pastel and oil painting. She now spends most of her time on Martha’s Vineyard working in her studio and plein air to capture the unique atmosphere and light of the Vineyard landscapes.

I enjoy hiking and exploring the Island in my spare time. I am always searching for new locations for plein air painting. While it is a very small island there is an amazing variety of landscapes and structures to inspire a painter
